It is with great pleasure and a bit of guilt that I am writing this review for Karen Bassler. Pleasure because Karen has been the best agent I have ever encountered and guilt because I have been so busy that I was unable to take the time to write a review earlier. I just wanted to do it carefully and not in a rush, to be fair to such a nice person and agent. We moved from Austria to College Station in the fall of 2019. We are a family of 4. When we arrived we thought it would be just a matter of going out there and buying a house. Reality soon prevailed, the Austrian system was different. Good friends recommended to us to work with Karen and we started slowly understanding the system, with the help of Karen and our interactions with the banks. The reality was, no credit score, no loan. Karen accompanied us through the process of finding a way of building our credit score and as soon as we got our preapproval letter we started visiting properties, after going around in town to see what places we like better. We had very restricted ideas of where we wanted to live but we still went around and asked Karen to show us several places. We had discussed with Karen what we were looking for and it turned out through the process that she grasped it very well. I was always thinking and asking myself how difficult is for another person to get the picture of the house you would like to have. We visited several houses that we found ourselves on Zillow so we were additionally making lists of properties, in addition to what Karen was suggesting. She was always very kind and brought us to all those places, even if I think her intuition was saying that those were not places where we would like to buy a house, as it always turned out to be. We fell in love with one house and we were going back and forth on deciding if we offer or not, Karen had always so much patience and was always trying to hear our needs, our thoughts and was not trying to push us in any direction but more being there to answer our questions and guide us through the process. I am impressed with how much patience she had. We were going to visit houses with our children. After some time we started going first to look the surrounding area to the chosen houses. I remember my children discovered that this means that Karen would not be always present when we wanted to go to look around, and the smallest one started asking me: mama is Karen going to come to the house we are looking for from outside too? Most of the time I said no, they both would be disappointed and would say they rather go when Karen is coming. Visiting houses through the pandemic was not easy and with the price increases, it was very important to get a sense of the market and get information about the market analysis, for which Karen was always very professional and work consciously looking to provide us with a good market analysis. After all the time we spent looking for a house, especially because we restricted ourselves dramatically to a very narrow area, I was about to give up and simply buy something, anything that looked reasonable. At this point we visited two houses we found in Zillow that looked reasonable, and I asked Karen to show us those. , she knew for sure already what would be my reaction but patiently brought us there. I thought well we should offer something just because maybe it was just time to buy a house. I knew that was not what we were expecting to buy, even if those houses looked good. I was impressed when Karen told me: Alma, you have been looking for a long time for a house and if this one is not a house you like, do not worry and wait for the right house for you. I felt relief and I was so happy I heard those words, that gave me the sense it was ok not to buy something just because it is time to buy and rather because you feel this is the one house that you would like to live in. All through this process, Karen was quick with asking for the information we requested regarding the houses we were interested in and was quick to send us this information as soon as possible. She has been always very kind to us, especially when we are not the easiest customers: the system is different from what we know so it required a lot of patience and iterations until we internalized that things were done differently here. Finally, we found a house we love and we were happy to buy it. Karen did a great job with the negotiation and getting the comps, when I saw the comps she put together I was impressed with the attention to detail she put in to get the most accurate comps she could find. Our family was joking that now that we found a house to buy we will be sad because this would mean we could not meet Karen, as usual, to go visit properties. I recommend Karen, we love her work, and as I said she was so nice to all of us and especially to our children who love to meet her.
